Portlaoise Car Parking Options
Portlaoise is a relatively small town, but there is ample parking to accommodate residents and visitors. Major businesses, including the Laois Shopping Centre, offer plenty of free parking for customers. Likewise, many of the hotels and bed and breakfasts around the region have enough parking to accommodate guests.
Portlaoise provides pay and display parking throughout much of the town centre. Parking areas are clearly signposted, and there are machines nearby through which drivers can purchase time. The machine will give them a disc for display under their windshield. All of the city-administered parking spaces are free for the first 30 minutes. Traffic wardens are vigilant when it comes to timing vehicles that do not display a disc; avoid fines by paying for time if you plan on staying longer than half an hour. Likewise, parking along double yellow lines, along footpaths and in disabled bays (without a valid permit) also result in fines.
There is a prominent car park on Church Street near the centre of town. It is located on the west side of the roundabout joining Church Street, Railway Street and Millbrook. This car park can accommodate up to 350 vehicles and offers hourly, daily and overnight rates. This car park is administered by Portlaoise Q-Park Church Street.
